About this deal

This is easily the best of the TWD “Bonus Episodes.” To be honest, this would’ve felt at home in the regular season; there were enough characters interacting with each other that it didn’t feel like it was filmed during the pandemic, and having real-life husband and wife Dean Morgan and Burton play the central married couple was both brilliant and practical. Negan Smith tells Gabriel Stokes about Lucille, calling her his one, true wife that existed before the outbreak. Negan admits his sins in cheating on Lucille and how he couldn't bring himself to kill her after she reanimated. With tears in his eyes, Negan calls his inability to kill the reanimated Lucille his one weakness.

In the present-day, Negan speaks to the memory of his late wife while holding the newly rediscovered Lucille bat in front of a roaring fire in Leah’s cabin. “I’m sorry that I left you,” he says, before joking: “I hope you found someone in the afterlife and you are screwing your brains out.” Saying that he misses her and that he “loved the shit out of you”, he adds: “I am going to do your fighting for you.” He then burns Lucille the bat – has Negan turned a corner? In season 8, Negan vaguely states that he helped young people improve upon their weaknesses and molded them into stronger individuals. In the season 10 episode " Here's Negan", he is portrayed as having been a high school gym teacher. Negan later met a woman named Lucille and the pair fell in love and married. Over time, however, Negan began cheating on her. She found out about the affair and he begged her forgiveness, which she granted. Around this time, Negan was fired from his job because he assaulted a man whose kids went to the school he taught at because the man had insulted his wife. In the onset of the outbreak, Negan ventured out into the walker-filled wilderness to find medicine for Lucille's pancreatic cancer, but when he returned, he found that she had died and become a walker. He cannot bring himself to put his wife down; this act of weakness would continue to haunt him and thus Negan strived to become a much stronger person. Jeffrey Dean Morgan was cast as Negan in 2015. [7] He made his television debut in the sixth-season finale.Right. The refrigerator where Negan had been keeping his wife’s medicine fails overnight, leaving her with no route to healing. He wants to set out to find her more, and does, even after Lucille asks him to stay, maintaining that eventually he’ll have to “do the fighting for both of us.” Negan won’t hear of it and leaves.

His last link to Negan of the Saviors dies when Lucille the Bat breaks against the skull of a zombie. Negan might still be seen as the villain who killed Glenn and so many others all those years ago, but he’s not that guy anymore. As the remains of one Lucille hit the flames to join the remains of another Lucille, Negan shakes off the ghost of a different person, and a different life, to rejoin the community he has put himself at risk for. Maybe Maggie will kill him for it. Maybe that’s what he is counting on. Pruner, Aaron (December 3, 2015). "Jeffrey Dean Morgan's reaction to playing Negan on 'The Walking Dead' is perfect". He promises that Lucille will protect them all, but also threatens to kill those who would stand in his way with her.Just before Negan leaves to go find Lucille’s drugs, she tells him that she knew about Negan’s affair, but that he’s made up for all of his mistakes. It’s a beautiful scene between Hilarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Lucille Dies, Negan Lives It’s good to know that Negan wasn’t always so brutal. In the early days of the end-of-days, we see a terrified Negan trying and failing to put a walker down by ineffectively stabbing it in the eye. He nearly becomes zombie supper but for Lucille, who fires the couple’s final bullet into the walker’s skull. Hey, we’ve all got to start somewhere when it comes to disposing of the undead, right?

The camp's sadistic warden (Michael Weaver) singles Negan out for his harshest abuse, determined to break him and use him to keep the other prisoners in line, but Negan remains defiant and makes an uneasy alliance with Ezekiel to plan an escape. The warden foils the escape attempt, however, and lines up Negan, Ezekiel, and Annie to be executed via firing squad. At the last moment, Negan and Ezekiel manage to convince the soldiers not to let the warden turn them into murderers, and they turn on their hated boss. Maggie, Gabriel, and Rosita then arrive to free them. In the years since the defeat of Pamela Milton and Lance Hornsby, Maggie has been forced to abandon the original Hilltop due to the damage from the Whisperers ultimately being too severe to repair, instead relocating the community to a rural factory complex in either New York or New Jersey. This new Hilltop was raided by the Croat who Maggie had recognized as a former Savior from his use of Savior tactics and, in particular, the whistle that the Saviors had used to intimidate their victims. The two agree to a deal where Maggie will allow Negan's young companion Ginny to live at the Hilltop in exchange for his help. In the intervening years, Negan has returned to many of his old ways while an unknown fate has befallen Annie and his child.
