About this deal

Over 180 years ago, Johann Sebastian Staedtler developed the coloured oil pastel pencil, the predecessor of the coloured pencil. The manufacturing process has not changed all that much over the years: individual colour pigments are still mixed with binding agents and pressed into the shape of a lead. The lead is encased in wood to protect it. These coloured pencils offer numerous advantages over the earlier pastel pencils: Coloured pencils in triangular format, such as our STAEDTLER ergosoft or STAEDTLER ergosoft jumbo in lots of bright colours. Graphite has been used in at least three radar absorbent materials. It was mixed with rubber in Sumpf and Schornsteinfeger, which were used on U-boat snorkels to reduce their radar cross section. It was also used in tiles on early F-117 Nighthawk stealth strike fighters. R. V. Lapshin (2019). c. Plastic/vinyl erasers– the firmest eraser. The most popular eraser, these modern erasers usually give the most complete removal of graphite. If you are like me the word ‘plastic’ might make you think they wouldn’t work well, I mean you can’t erase with any of the other plastic items on your table, right. But you need to remember two things: plastics come in a huge variety of formulas and also ‘plastic’ can means ‘pliable’ as in ‘the plastic arts’ meaning sculpture. Many plastic erasers come with paper sleeves that you can use to hold the rubber. ‘Dustless’ means that the eraser residue particles clump together for more complete removal, leaving fewer tiny particles that are actually still on the paper but you don’t see… until you take a close-up photo. They can be heat-moulded into many shapes, both for finger grips and for sharp edges that allow the erasure of fine lines. When starting to colour, children often press down too hard as their sensitivity to pressure is not yet fully developed. These coloured pencils therefore also feature ABS, the white protective coating around the lead that increases break-resistance. Is there a rubber that will remove a graphite line in a drawing without lightening the ink line on top? This type of rubber is the best choice for erasing highlights in charcoal or pastel because plastic and rubber erasers leave pieces that can smear the drawing when you rub them away, but a putty rubber collects the charcoal or pastel inside itself without leaving any crumbs to brush away. Caran D’ache Design Eraser for Graphite and Coloured Pencils (phthalate free) – non-abrasive, not for ink Wainwright, Alfred (2005). A Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells, Western Fells. London: Frances Lincoln. ISBN 978-0-7112-2460-5. DARK GRAPHITE is a very dark grey shade that is quite suitable for setting striking contrasts in a room. In its presence diverse pastel shades may be combined, without the room appearing to be kitschy. White door or window frames stand out of DARK GRAPHITE elegantly.

Gum erasers (also called art gum erasers) – Designed to crumble very easily as they collect up the graphite so they do less damage to the paper. But since they crumble away they don’t last as long. Very soft. Graphite Pencils are perhaps the first drawing tools you’ll be introduced to as a beginner. They’re simple and easy to use, and most people are familiar with them outside an art setting.Global patenting activity relating to ultrasonic exfoliation has decreased over the years, indicating that this low-cost technique has become well established. Thermal exfoliation is a more recent process. Compared to ultrasonic exfoliation, this fast and solvent-free thermal approach has attracted greater commercial interest. [81] Lots to choose from including Ash grey, Chocolate grey, Dark grey, Light grey, Ivory and White but the story doesn't end there, more will follow.

Tinted Graphite Caran d’Ache Technalo RGB Water-Soluble Tinted Graphite Pencils (left) and Derwent Graphitint Tinted Graphite Pencils (right) In general plastic erasers are similar. Except the dustless ones that I find difficult to use because of the lump of crumbs that builds up underneath the eraser.Charcoal Pencils offer all the benefits of compressed charcoal, but with the convenience of a wooden case. Working in much the same way as a traditional pencil, charcoal pencils allow you to work with precision – without messy hands! Their wooden case means they are less likely to break, and they can be easily sharpened to a fine point. They’re fantastic for artists looking to try out charcoal, but who want some of the familiarity of a pencil. Tinted Charcoal Plastic erasers seem cleaner than rubber erasers because their crumbs are not as fine, the rubber eraser crumbs are so fine it is a bit harder to get rid of them all. The density of the material makes these pencils a little heavier, and they sit comfortably in the hand.

It is much messier than Graphite to work with. Even if you use Charcoal pencils you will still find that they generate more dust than graphite. Pierson, Hugh O. (1993).
